Interior Maintenance

I understand how much time and effort it takes to get your car’s interior exactly how you want it. The last thing you want is for it to deteriorate because proper safeguards were not implemented. So, I’ve compiled a list of simple things you can start doing right away to keep your car upholstery in the fantastic condition it deserves.

1. Use an old T-shirt to wipe up spills

It’s a good idea to keep a few raggedy t-shirts around the house for various odd jobs. If you spill something on your upholstery, use one of these shirts to clean it up. T-shirts are far superior to paper towels for spills because they are made of wood and can leave marks and scratches, especially if you have leather seats.

2. Crack the Windows Open

When the temperature inside your vehicle rises too high, the interior components can begin to deteriorate. It is critical to remember that the temperature inside your car can be significantly higher than the temperature outside. Even if the temperature outside is only 75 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature inside your car could be well over 85 degrees, so remember to crack your baby’s windows, even on mild days, and avoid parking in direct sunlight.

3. Sun Protection

Sunlight can cause a variety of interior damage over time, including color fading and leather cracking. If you can’t avoid parking in direct sunlight, consider investing in a window shade to keep the sun out of your car. Some people prefer to purchase a sun blocker that goes directly over the upholstery to protect it from the sun’s harmful rays. Sunshade, in either form, will help to lower the interior temperature and prevent cracking.

4. Get Rubber Floor Mats

Placing plastic or rubber floor mats on the carpet is another way to protect the upholstery. These mats will catch any dirt or mud you may track in. They are simple to clean, and you won’t have to worry about the carpet becoming damaged too soon.

5. Vacuum frequently

Dirt and crumbs may fall onto or between your car’s seats no matter how careful you are. Vacuuming your seats and floor on a regular basis not only keeps your car interior looking good, but it also keeps your interior from becoming permanently damaged due to caked-in dirt or pesky crumbs. Vacuum between the seat crevices, which is where dirt is most likely to hide, and carefully clean out your beauty after long drives or dirty car shows.
